Recommendation for Insight on Climate Forecasts

To best understand what is in store in the coming several months for our climate here in the Central Rockies, High Prairie, and the Southwest, I highly recommend this website maintained by Dr. Klaus Wolter, an internationally respected professional in his field who works out of the Earth System Research Laboratory (ERSL) in Boulder:

Dr. Wolter will have a new forecast projection published on his site on Friday, February 23; so if you can, take a look and see what is in store for us in the coming months.

79th Annual Academy Award Predictions

The Academy Awards broadcast is coming this Sunday evening, February 25, at 6pm, on ABC. For many years I have enjoyed this broadcast, particularly when the historical past of the film tradition is presented. This industry has a long rich history and has played an instrumental role in addressing shortcomings and injustices in our society. Many of my favorite films over the years reflect these efforts.

For this year, here are my predictions for the six leading categories:

Best Picture: The Departed

Best Director: Martin Scorsese, for The Departed

Best Actor: Peter O'Toole, for Venus

Best Actress: Judi Dench, for Notes on a Scandal

Best Supporting Actress: Jennifer Hudson, for Dreamgirls

Best Supporting Actor: Mark Wahlberg, for The Departed


Look for The Departed to walk away with 4-6 awards. Upsets are always possible, but I think the Best Film and Best Director are leadpipe cinches.
