As I sit at home relaxing before my night's work, I have been following the big fire on Green Mountain in Lakewood, CO that started around 1:30pm on Monday 4 August. Most of the eastside of the mountain has been burned in a massive grass and brush fire. Several hundred acres have been torched, but it looks as if the efforts of professional firefighters saved any houses and structures from a fiery demise. The fire blew down the eastside of the mountain towards homes just south of the 6th Avenue freeway near the Indiana Avenue exit. As I post, some light rain is beginning there which may slow the thrust of the fire. It is quite windy in that area. The vast slope is visible throughout most of Central metro Denver and is a quite attractive and nice area that is among the places I would like to reside when and if I return to the Denver area in the next year or two. When the fire was finally fully controlled, West Metro Fire and Rescue estimated that around 900 acres had burned.-
