Tuesday's News Articles and Observations
Some recent news articles that caught my eye and opinions on them.
A. Massive Election Defeats Facing GOP in 2008?
There is a lot of speculation that the 2008 election will result in widespread Republican losses, even in states that have largely solid in the GOP camp the last quarter century. I believe it is way to early to make such projections. But if things do not change in Iraq and with the economy, it could mean very bad news for the Republicans across the board. And the growing US Attorneys scandal with Alberto Gonzales and Karl Rove will make matters worse.

B. The Best Plan yet for Health Care Coverage Offered by Kucinich
US Representative from Ohio, Dennis Kucinich, a candidate for the Democratic Nomination for President, has offered the best plan for dealing with the massive health care crisis citizens are dealing with daily. I like his plan because it takes the greedy wasteful insurance industry almost completely out of the loop. I am unsure whether it will make to the Democratic Platform in 2008, but I believe that a good bit of it will. The amount of money the insurance industry will throw at Democrats in campaign advertisements next year will be obscene and will surely result in greater inefficiencies, waste, and loss of life and good health for many people as a result.

Like that corpulent, pompous being running the country behind the scenes and really emitting an overwhelming foul stench, the more I read and learn about the growing ominous Blackwater USA, the more its stinks and alarms...

E. World Wildlife Foundation Report on Growing Troubled Rivers Globally
Water is the lifeblood of our societies globally. Overpopulation is at the root of these rivers which can be at best described as endangered. And global warming will only increase the problems faced by mankind and wildlife in these river basins and ecosystems.

If you get a chance, stop by the library or a bookstore and pick up April's edition of The American Prospect. Former Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin is on the cover. There are a number of good articles in this issue, particularly on the negative effect Rubin has on the Democratic Party and its working class membership.

Some Articles Concerning the West
As a near lifelong resident of the Rocky Mountain West, Southwest, and High Plains, I have a keen interest on what is going on in the region. Here is a couple of stories that are of interest to the citizens of the West.
