Tuesday 9 October News Articles and Observations

Here are some recent news articles for Tuesday 9 October and some brief observations on them.

A. Greenland is Melting Away

The cliche that has been around seemingly forever is "Nero fiddles while Rome is burning". The 21st Century version of the cliche, which is frighteningly real, is "The Republicans and George Bush count their money and burn their oil while Greenland, the Arctic, and Antarctica is melting ! ". And banks are near or at the top of the list of their cronies.

F. Dollar Continues to Fade as Benchmark Global Currency

With these trends in place, look for the dollar to drop further relative to other global currencies, particularly the Euro. The Euro probably will gain between seven and twelve percent against the dollar before the end of 2008, and it will be more when the American-Iranian War commences.

I. Renewable Energy Resources Abundant in Rocky Mountain West

I hope to see widespread development of the abundant wind and solar resources prevalent in this region, but I am more than aware that the old guard of coal and oil and gas will fight to keep it in check in any and every way they can.

J. Lakewood, CO: A City in of Itself ?

Without a core of good paying white collar jobs, Lakewood still is very dependent on Denver for its economic vitality. And that won't change anytime soon in spite of all the spiffying up and new corporate big box shopping centers and stores.

O. Cabela's to Open in Billings by Summer '08

The store in Wheat Ridge, CO, will open in the next 18 to 24 months, and this article suggests a
Cabela's will open in Wyoming. The three cities I would think would be in the running for the store would be Casper, Rock Springs, and Laramie. A Cabela's in New Mexico and Arizona may also be in the not so distant offing.
